Muspaneel Art

Mus Paneel-Art has been making qualitative painting supports according to traditional methods in its own workshop since 1991. The excellent panels are ideal for painters who want to start each creation with and on the best base!

HISTORY

Solid wood panels were already used as a base by Egyptian and Greek painters centuries ago. In Coptic mummy portraits textile fabric was partially stretched over the panels and then painted.

In the 12th and 13th century Italian painters developed the style of wooden panel paintings on huge altar tables and crucifixes.

The wooden panels came back at the end of the Renaissance and in the Baroque era. These wooden panels used to be made by special artisans and not by the painter himself.

These artisans proudly signed the panels as a quality mark. The reason why the painter didn’t make his own panels at the time can be guessed: making extremely good professional supports is a trade in itself and we are still noticing this today.

Painting support for painters

The old craft of panel-making has been reinstated by Mus Paneel-Art. Mus Paneel-Art has been making qualitative painting supports for painters manually and according to traditional methods in its own workshop since 1991. These days, however, we use FSC certified first choice MDF and oak for our panels.

Just like the craftsmen of yesteryear, Mus Paneel-Art signs each panel it makes on the back with the ‘sparrow’ which many painters are familiar with; the ideal proof of the fact that you entrust your creation to the highest quality panel!
